Dr. Zhu Lan is the Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, a tenured professor at Peking Union Medical College, and a member of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. She has been engaged in clinical practice, teaching, and research in the field of obstetrics and gynecology for over 30 years, specializing in difficult and critical cases as well as rare diseases. She is a member of the China Central Healthcare Expert Group.

Zhu Lan founded the specialty of pelvic floor disorders in China and invented the "PUMCH Procedure" and other pelvic floor reconstruction procedures, which have been included in international textbooks. She pioneered the national three-level prevention and treatment system for pelvic floor disorders, and established the national standards for pelvic floor rehabilitation, reaching the advanced level of developed countries. She led a global multicentral genetic etiology study on the Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome and discovered mutations in the PAX8 gene. In the global ranking by Expertscape for Pelvic Organ Prolapse specialists, she ranks 11th out of 16,337 globally, No.1 in China.

Her clinical achievements have been included in seven international guidelines. As the first or corresponding author, she has published 167 SCI articles in journals such as JAMA and its sub-journals, Nature Communications, and other prestigious journals. She has won the National Science and Technology Progress Award twice (as the first and ninth), the Ho Leung Ho Lee Prize, and has been recognized among the Top Ten Medical Advances in 2019 and Significant Medical Advances in China in 2023.
